The Catholic Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to do everything possible to end the killings and violence in Nigeria before the country is devoured by them.

The Catholic Bishops on Saturday made the appeal at their first meeting in Lagos which drew participants from the dioceses of Lagos, Ijebu-Ode and Abeokuta, urging Buhari to use “all resources at his disposal to end the killings and violence”. Across the country.”

At the end of the meeting, the bishops drafted a statement signed jointly by the chairman of the council, the Reverend Alfred Martins and the secretary, the Reverend Francis Adesina, in which they condemned the continuing violence in all parts of the country under a president who was a great military strategist.

“The continuing killings and violence in all parts of the country are becoming disturbing,” the statement read.

“The continued senseless killings of innocents and violence across the country are of real concern to Nigerians. And they continue unabated as the administration headed by President Muhammadu Buhari does little to curb them.

“Very recently, it was reported that in Taraba State, a Catholic church was razed for no reason. These cases of violence and many others have been the hallmark of our nation. How long would these be allowed to continue?

“The President should take responsibility and end this killing and violence before Nigeria is devoured by it.”
