Why voters thought Catholic priests should be allowed to marry:

– The Catholic Church needs priests in many countries. I don’t really think that’s a good thing, but we need priests. I know the expense is also greater.

– The closeness of marriage can only strengthen a priest’s ability to help his married parishioners.

– There is no reason for them not to be married, how do they advise married people when they do not have a degree in this field and have never experienced married life or children. Will this stop what is happening now NO but at least we could have more compassionate and understanding priests towards the needs of the flock.

– To enable them to be “whole” in their humanity. The same, of course, applies to nuns. Circumstances change — housing, food, family life. The apostles did.

– It does not interfere with love and service to God.

Why voters thought Catholic priests shouldn’t be allowed to marry:

– They already have a choice. Get married or become a priest.

– Theologically, it is not possible. When the priest says Mass, he is representing Jesus Christ by proxy, who was a male victim and is the true staging of Calvary. This is the central question of our Faith.

– It’s always been like that. Too many people try to change the rules to make it easier for themselves. People don’t go to church and don’t want to feel guilty so they change the rules.
