Priest wanting to move to INC concerns the Catholic Church

THE diocese of San Fernando in La Union has pledged to prevent any of its priests from joining the Iglesia ni Cristo.

In a statement dated June 20, the diocese said Fr. Romeo G. Lopez, pastor of Holy Guardian Angels Parish in Sto. Tomas, La Union, considered joining INC.

The diocese said Fr. Lopez expressed his intention in a letter to Bishop Daniel O. Presto dated June 12 and discussed during their dialogue on June 13.

“We are currently communicating and doing our best to prevent Father Romy from doing what he is doing because it has caused confusion and scandal among the faithful,” the diocese said.

“While we make and exhaust every effort to do so, we call on all lay faithful to pray for him and refrain from further fanning the issue,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a circular, Bishop Presto said he had encouraged Lopez to stay in the ministry and refrain from his plan to leave the Roman Catholic Church.

“However, there are recent posts on Facebook that confirm its integration into the Iglesia ni Cristo,” Presto said. “It is for this reason that I have issued a warning letter… asking him to reform himself and not to persist in actions which could lead to him being punished.”
