Stop the killings before they consume Nigeria, Catholic Bishops tell Buhari

The Catholic Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos have urged the regime led by Muhammadu Buhari to use all the resources at its disposal to end the killings and violence across the country before the Nigerians.

The Province made up of the Archbishop of Lagos, the Diocese of Ijebu-Ode and the Diocese of Abeokuta made this call during their first meeting of the year held in Lagos.

In a statement jointly signed by the chairman of the board, the Reverend Alfred Martins and the secretary, the Reverend Francis Adesina, they (the bishops) questioned why, despite the outcry and condemnation of the “continuing senseless killings of innocent people and violence across the country”, it was far from being mitigated.

Seeing the many murders that have marred various aspects of Nigeria’s recent history, they said, “Following the New Year 2022, a priest from Abeokuta Diocese, Rev. Fr. Luke Adeleke, was killed by armed men while carrying out his priestly activities.

“Very recently, it was reported that in Taraba State, a Catholic church was razed for no reason. These cases of violence and many others have been the hallmark of our country. How long would these be allowed to continue? »
