Mike Considine wrote a very good letter (pro-choice Catholics).
An important point was missing: the life of the unborn child.
The church teaches that you can never intentionally take the life of an innocent human being. In addition, every Catholic has an obligation to protect the weak and the innocent, which may include a woman forced to have an abortion. Abortion is more than a sin.
The Catholic Church has always taught that killing a child in the womb is an inherently bad act. There can be no justification. It’s so bad that it’s one of the few automatic excommunications.
The prophetic office of a priest requires that he instruct his people on what God expects of them. If, to gain the good favor of his people, a priest does not do so, he will answer before God for the souls of those whom he has not warned.
As long as there are people in this ward who believe contrary to these crucial teachings that have been passed down to us, I am obligated to look for words that can touch their hearts.
